In the Voice of Esther - Novella

In the Voice of Esther is a work of fiction exploring the metaphysical idea of “The Sacred Marriage” between Esther and Mordechai. The novella tells the story of Queen Esther from her point of view, taking the reader through her inner and outer transformative experiences. Following closely the Biblical text of the megillah and midrashim, the plot is enriched by cross-disciplinary research in linguistics, archeology, archetypal psychology, sociology, and pre-patriarchal and Persian history as well as Gematria and Kabbalah. Inspired by the works of Chassidic kabbalists and the rites of the Sacred Marriage, the novella suggests a new possible hidden code in the story of Purim.

Did I have the strength of Ishtar? I, who was merely flesh and blood, who with one swipe of a sword tomorrow could find myself on the other side of the veil, with my parents. Dearest Mother and Father, tomorrow let the King finally see Haman’s essential darkness, and seal an edict for his death. Help me earn my name, Hadassah Bat Avichayil, the daughter of a valiant soldier.
