Having benefited from a fair amount of exceptional educational experiences in Judaism, History, Philosophy, Psychology and Religion, I can affirm without a shadow of doubt that Alana’s classes are a true treasure one wouldn’t want to miss. Alana’s mastery is unique, transporting her listeners with empathy and confidence into a voyage into inner space where she unpacks for them layers of conceptual depth, seemingly effortlessly. One finds oneself enriched by the end of her classes, only to realise days later that the treasure keeps augmenting, just as effortlessly, as one’s soul continues to register and connect the dots, while one is busy with life. Prior to my participation in Alana’s discussion on “Esther, Here and Now” my knowledge of Megillat Esther was limited to its annual reading each year on Purim. Through the course of the evening, my eyes were opened to so many ideas and different angles in the story that I never considered. Furthermore, Alana’s enthusiasm was infectious and I found myself being pulled into the ancient text. And yet, she was able to relate the themes to our modern lives.
